The West Cumbrian derby at Derwent Park on Sunday is the only League One Super Eights game which can’t affect the finishing order.

Only west Cumbrian pride is at stake when Workington Town play their final game of the season against old rivals Whitehaven.

Town cannot reach the play-offs, and Whitehaven are secure in third place.

But clearly, against their near-neighbours Workington will want to finish the season on a high.

Whitehaven coach Carl Forster wants to maintain the momentum ahead of a play-off semi-final next week.

Barring some remarkable scores on Sunday, Haven will host York City Knights on September 24 looking to earn a place in the final.

Although it would need a staggering turnaround in points differential, York could be overhaul by Doncaster.

But that is certainly not going to happen as Doncaster travel to Canada to take-on League champions Toronto Wolfpack.

But even if they lose to the Canadian side, Doncaster might still just hang on to the fifth and final play-off spot.

They are currently a point ahead of both Keighley and Newcastle, who have tough examinations at the week-end.

Newcastle visit York City Knights whose coach James Ford has already said it’s important to get back to winning ways after Sunday’s defeat at Whitehaven.

Ahead of the game at Derwent Park, coach Forster wil need to assess the fitness of Connor Holliday (ribs) and Karl Olstrom (shoulder) while one or two other have been nursing knocks over the last few weeks.
