WET WINNERS: They may be soaked but Workington Juniors can still raise a cheer. They are, back from left: Liam Williamson, Kieran Worthington, Ben Powell, Thomas Glover, Adam Cowan; front, from left: Elliott Earl, Jason Burrow and Tom Powell

In awful coniditions with heavy rain all day they recovered from a first-game defeat to stride on to victory.

And it was the same team, Anthorn, which beat in that opening game that Workington defeated in the final.

The tournament began with group games. Workington lost 2-1 to Anthorn but then beat their last three opponents to take the group on goal difference.

That put them into the semi-finals were they took on Warwick Wanderers and won 1-0 with a goal from Liam Williamson.

In the final against Anthorn every Workington player was outstanding, particularly stand-in goalkeeper Jason Burrow.

Ben Powell and first choice keeper Adam Cowan sealed the win with a goal each, the game finishing 2-1 to Workington.

Throughout the day Williamson scored six goals, Powell bagged four, Kieran Worthington three, Elliott Earl two and Cowan one.
