SEATON’S girls football club have done it again - got a team through to a County Cup final.
Just a couple of weeks after the U14 side lined up a knock-out shot, the club’s U12s have now done the same.
What makes the achievement of the two teams even more remarkable is that they don’t play in a league and rely on occasional friendlies for match practice.
The two finals will be played next month though dates and venues have yet to be decided. Also, the girls don’t know yet who they’ll play.
The U12s reached their final when the breezed past Carlisle glass leagues Harraby Catholic in the quarter final beating them 5-0.
In the semi they came up against Windscale who they defeated 4-0.
Right from the kick off Seaton put pressure on the Windscale goal with sisters Steffi and Rio Hardy both coming close hitting the post and crossbar but it was Seatons Chloe Henderson who finally scored with a well-placed shot into the corner.
Seaton were well on top now and from a corner Chloe Henderson glanced in a great header into the roof of the net to make it 2-0 at half-time.
Windscale came out looking for a quick reply but Seaton’s defence held firm with Lauren Campbell making some crunching tackles and Megan Dixon rock solid in goal.
Seaton who scored again with the ball being played out from the back with Rio Hardy who beat two players to shoot and bring a good save from the goalie. But the ball rebounded Henderson who calmly slotted home into the corner to score her hat-trick.
Seaton were well in control now with midfield duo of Annabel Watson and Abbey Kirkbride combining well on the edge of the area for Abbey Kirkbride to finish off the Windscale resistance with a hard and low shot.
Seaton coach Tracey O’Fee said afterwards that considering neither of the club’s teams are playing in a competitive league it has been a great achievement to make the finals.
