Cockermouth win all-West U12 county soccer final

A single goal was all that separated this two sides at they battled for the U12 Cumbria Cup on Tuesday evening.

A long-range shot from Aiden Wainwright in the second half settled the closely-contested match at Mirehouse FC.

Cockermouth edged the first half, Allerdale deciding to concentrate on defence while they had the wind against them.

Allerdale opened brightly in the second period but when they conceded the goal that knocked the stuffing out of them.

There were strong performances from all the Allerdale team, particularly Dillon McDermott in midfield and Chris Williams in defence.

Cockermouth coach Garry Dixon said: “It was an all- round performance, the result of a lot of hard work through the season.”

Cumbria Cup involved teams from the West Cumbria, Carlisle Glass, Penrith leagues.
