A whopping 176 swimmers took to the water at Workington Swimming Club's sixth annual President's Gala at the weekend.

The three-day event at Workington Leisure Centre started with the gruelling 1,500m freestyle for boys and the 800m for girls on the Friday evening, which attracted swimmers from local clubs as well as from Crewe, Salford and Blackpool.

The 1,500m event was won by Tom Robinson, of Ulverston Otters, and the 800m by Alexandra Carr from Blackpool Aquatics.

There was a host of events on Saturday and Sunday which saw a total of 176 swimmers competing over the whole weekend.

Two Cockermouth swimmers handed out medals on the two days.
