More than 1,000 youngsters flocked to the Workington Reds Junior Football Festival at the weekend.

The event was a huge success with teams from all over Allerdale, Copeland, Carlisle and Penrith over the two days.

And a team from Lincoln also made the journey, with their coach, former Workington man Mark Wordsworth.

Played at the Ranch, Moss Bay, organisers were delighted with the turnout.

Craig Johnstone said: "It was just a fantastic day, the weather was great and it was a massive success, with some great football on show."

The U7 winners on the day were Seaton Village, after they defeated Crown Newlaithes, of Carlisle, in the final.

Workington Reds Juniors took the honours in the U8 age group after getting the better of Maryport in the final encounter.

Whitehaven Amateurs were the U9 winners, with Whitehaven Miners finishing as runners-up, with Bigrigg Bulls coming out on top in the U10s, beating Whitehaven Amateurs in the final.

Calthwaite Juniors, of Penrith, clinched the U11 tournament, with Whitehaven Amateurs the runners-up while Carlisle City were champions in the U12s, beating Dearham Rangers in the final.
