Around 200 pupils took great delight in showing off their sporting skills at an event in Cockermouth.

Chris Wright, of Wright Sports Services, helped organise a years one and two Cockermouth Fundamentals Festival last week.

Schools including Eaglesfield Paddle, St Bridget's, Bridekirk, Dean, All Saints and Broughton all sent pupils.

And eight year five volunteer helpers from Eaglesfield Paddle and five students on work placement from Cockermouth School assisted on the day.

The event included running, jumping, throwing, striking, catching and team work.

The following schools won the activity areas: Target Throwing - Broughton 2, Speed - St Bridget's 1, Jumping - Bridekirk 3 and Broughton 1, Teamwork - Eaglesfield Paddle 3, Steeplechase- Broughton 1, Striking - All Saints 2, Catching - All Saints 1, Endurance Team Work - Bridekirk 2.

Chris Wright was delighted with the day, saying: "Excellent event with schools committing to the event and not deterred by the weather.

"We believe in the importance of ensuring infants access these opportunities to ensure sporting success in the future.

"The kids were fantastic today."
