Seaton Academy have narrowly pipped St Michael's Infant School, Workington, in a mini tennis challenge match.

After four weeks of coaching, to coincide with Wimbledon fortnight, run by St Joseph's School sports development officer, David Wise, the youngsters were ready for their finale.

With two teams of four taking part it was an incredibly exciting and close affair with Seaton just pipping St Michael's 9-7 in the best of 16 match.

Mr Wise said: "It was such a close run thing with almost every match being decided by a couple of points here and there.

"Each player started nervously but really grew in stature and they all produced some incredible rallies throughout their matches.

"Each match was timed and they all played each other and all went back to their lessons with huge smiles on their faces.

"This is something we are really looking at for the future development of sport in schools and I am already looking forward to next year's return fixture."
