West Cumbria Youth League's first ever under-7 festival took place at the weekend.
The league has introduced the new festivals to try and allow the youngsters to get to grips with the game without a strict league environment.
The festivals will take place every three weeks and teams will play around five short games during the course of each event.
League chairman Richard Lewthwaite said: "This is an initiative that already works in Penrith and Carlisle and we have also taken it up.
"We are hoping to increase participation and break them into the game easily.
"The idea is to give them lots of little games, playing 10/12 minutes at a time and keep their interest."
The first festival took place at the all-weather facility at Lakes College, Lillyhall on Sunday with 11 teams competing.
