A spectacular Aspatria performance saw them score 11 without reply at home to Unisun in the Benevolent Cup second round in the latest round of county football.

A torrid start for the visitors saw them gift Aspatria a two-goal lead with a brace of own goals before the home side took control with a Darryl Creighton hat-trick.

Richard Hudson, Mark Irwin, Malcolm Graham, Kingsley Grandison, Lewis Penn and Dan Swann notched a goal each to complete the scoring.

Windscale held their nerve to progress on penalties against Whitehaven Miners.

Nothing separated the two sides after 90 minutes with the score at 1-1 after Dan Rowland’s goal for Windscale was cancelled out by a Miners equaliser.

A further 30 minutes could not find a winner and the tie went to penalties, where Windscale held their nerve to progress 4-3 from the spot.

Frizington Whitestar gave up home advantage and travelled to Workington Athletic, going down 4-1 to a Greg Armstrong brace and one each for Matthew Perry and Tony Berwick. Jordan Lee scored a consolation goal for Whitestar.

Mirehouse were on the road at Netherhall and were soundly beaten 6-0, courtesy of an Andrew Lowes hat trick, a brace from Darren Rule and one from Zach Little.

Cockermouth’s match against Borough was a victim of the weather.

Cleator Moor Celtic progressed from the first round with a 1-0 win at Gosforth thanks to Owen Charlton’s goal, while the other tie between Bransty Rangers and Whitehaven Amateurs was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Silloth ground out a 1-0 win over Wigton Harriers in the quarter-finals of the Ken Glover Memorial Shield with Ellis Guardhouse grabbing the winner.
