Blue Bell went to the top of the Workington Sunday Football League after a convincing win over Deer Orchard last weekend.

They put the previous week’s cup defeat behind them to surge ahead in the league, taking advantage of Northside having no game.

Blue Bell’s 6-1 win over Deer Orchard puts them a point clear of Northside, who dropped to second but have a game in hand on their rivals.

Grant Quayle, Tom Powell and Ryan Connelly put their side in the ascendency with a brace apiece.

Luke Graham grabbed a consolation for Deer Orchard.

Bottom side Dearham Commercial could not make any headway on Millfield Miners, the team just above them as they went under 3-1.

Tom Williams found the back of the net twice for the Miners with Anthony Zajac also scoring. Darren Rule was the lone scorer for the Dearham outfit.

Sun Inn and Senhouse Street remain third and fourth respectively after they both secured wins on Sunday.

Sun Inn were 3-1 victors over Grasslot Welfare courtesy of goals from Richard Hudson, Richard Hird and Craig Wilson. Mark Barlow replied for Grasslot.

It was a little tighter for Senhouse Street who just edged past Voodoo 2-1 with goals from Terry Warrior and Connor Irving. Jamie Crossfield kept Voodoo in contention when he got on the scoresheet.

In division one, the big clash between leaders Broughton and second placed Yankees was called off. This allowed some of the chasing teams to gain ground .

Borough Miners and Seaton Rangers both recorded wins which meant they moved on to 16 points, level with Yankees. But Yankees remain ahead of the pack thanks to an excellent goal difference and they also have games in hand.

Borough are in third thanks to their clear-cut 8-3 win over visiting Maryport Labour Club.

Niall Melton led the way for Borough, finding the net four times, to go along with goals from Jack Edmundson, Bryan Rutherford and Kevin Lever. Labour Club fought back with goals from Ellis Gardhouse, Ethan Weir and Jack Pears.

Seaton are fourth as they could only muster a 3-2 victory when they travelled to play Commercial.

Greg Kerr, Barry Miller and Shaun Carter all scored for Seaton with Lee Sharp and Mark Mattocks replying for Commercial.

The final game saw Thomas Henry welcome Workington Gra-pes but it was the latter who picked up the points with a 4-3 victory.

Mark Robertson bagged a brace for Grapes with Daniel Storey and Adam Cowan also netting.

Jordan Tremble, Sean Boal and Daryl Birk struck back for Thomas Henry but they could not keep hold of their visitors.
