The Under-16 County Cup clash between Workington Juniors and Cockermouth U15s had to be abandoned at the weekend through injury.

An ambulance was called to Lakes College's all-weather pitch at Lillyhall when a youngster from the Cockermouth team received a head injury after a collision with the goalposts.

The game was then abandoned with the score 2-1 in Workington's favour. But it will now be replayed this weekend.

The County Cup took centre stage for West Cumbria Youth League teams at the weekend, with mixed fortunes.

Some of the games took a battering with the weather and were postponed until next weekend but some did go ahead.

In the Under-12 competition, Whitehaven AFC's Blue team moved forward with a 3-1 win at Castletown Juniors Falcons.

The Blues travelled to Penrith to face new opposition.

It was a hard fought first half on a tight pitch that saw chances for both teams and 10 minutes before the break the Falcons lashed home the opening goal to lead 1-0 at the break.

The Blues came storming out in the second half and Leo Merrin quickly levelled with a fantastic shot and soon after Harvey Law added to put the Blues 2-1 up.

In the ascendency now, the Blues were controlling the game and, keeping up the pressure, they added a third goal.

And it came with five minutes remaining. Blues put the game to bed as Callum Wilson scored the goal that sealed their place in the hat for the next round.

There was also joy for Whitehaven Miners Social as they recorded a 4-0 win at home to Carlisle Centurions.

Moor Row put up a great show to run out convincing winners 11-1 against Castletown.

There were mixed fortunes for the two Seaton teams with United winning 3-1 at home to Workington Wolves but Athletic left the competition after a 10-1 defeat at the hands of Dalston Junior Black Reds.

Cockermouth also lost out 7-0 against Crown Newlaithes.

In the U14 competition, Workington Rangers U13s showed their intent with a 10-1 victory at the home of Castletown Juniors Colts.

While in the U16 County Cup, the only local side in action was Whitehaven Amateurs U15s and they went under 5-2 at the hands of Penrith U15 Whites.

More local sides will head into action this weekend to try and reach the next stage.

There were also some league games. In the Under 12 division, second-placed Maryport AFC beat Workington Reds 8-2 to stay level on points with league leaders Cleator Moor Celtic.

Bransty stayed top of the Under 13 league with a 6-1 win at Workington Reds White while Moor Row remained pointless as Whitehaven AFC ran out 9-0 winners.

In the girls’ Under-12 division, Whitehaven AFC beat their own Yellow side 2-1.

Whitehaven AFC scored two early goals, both from Grace Daley. The Yellows scored at the start of the second half through Milly Law but were unable to find an equaliser.

Workington Reds Diamonds went down 2-1 at home to Whitehaven AFC Blue.

In what was always going to be a close encounter Whitehaven eventually took the lead in the first half through Emi Rudd.

The second half saw a goal for each team with Emi Rudd once again scoring.

Workington Reds Diamonds Whites were beaten 9-0 by Whitehaven AFC in the Under-13 girls league.
