Former Workington Reds striker Glenn Murray has signed for Bournemouth from Crystal Palace for a fee of around £5 million.

The Maryport-born 31-year-old scored 47 goals in 125 appearances for Palace and was a key figure in their promotion to the top flight.

“It feels great to finally be here,” Murray told afcb.co.uk.

“I’ve come across the club a lot in my career and it’s been great to see it progress.

“The way the boys play football is very exciting. It’s front-footed and it will be nice to try and get some goals from it.”

Murray, who has also played for Rochdale and Brighton, joined Palace on a free transfer in 2011.

He scored 30 goals in Palace’s passage to the play-off final in 2012/13, but missed the promotion due to a serious knee injury.

He spent part of last season on loan with Reading, where he scored eight goals in 18 league games, before returning to Selhurst Park.

Murray scored six goals in six games and seven in 20 appearances on his return to Palace.

Murray played for both Workington Reds and Barrow in his home county before joining Carlisle in 2004, where he played 58 times, scoring six goals.

He was part of the Blues’ League Two title-winning campaign in 2005-06, where he was largely a bit-part player under Paul Simpson.

After loan stints at Stockport County and Rochdale, subsequent moves to Spotland, permanently this time, and Brighton propelled him up the footballing ladder before he helped fire Palace into the top flight in the 2012-13 season.

However, the arrival of Sunderland’s Connor Wickham has pushed Murray down the pecking order at Selhurst Park, with manager Alan Pardew sanctioning his move to the Cherries, where he became their 10th new arrival of the summer.
