Netherhall eased past Mirehouse with a fine 4-1 win in the Smurfit Kappa Premier Division on Saturday.

Alan Sim’s goal for the visitors was a mere consolation as Sean Smith bagged two for Netherhall, with Callum Banks and Zach Little also netting.

It was a similarly miserable weekend for Whitehaven as they welcomed Aspatria, only to succumb to a 5-1 loss courtesy of goals from Will Hodgson, Darryl Creighton, Matt Prior, Malcolm Graham and Brad Williamson. Paul McNally replied for Miners.

And a third one-sided tie saw Silloth collect a 6-1 win at Cockermouth, with Adam Carr’s hat-trick complemented by goals from Andrew Trestrianu, Stuart Johnston and Brian Hayhurst as Brett McMillan’s goal for Cockermouth was in vain.

Workington Athletic’s trip to Carlisle City was postponed.

An 11-goal classic between Gosforth and Bransty Rangers lit up Division One.

Games between Cleator Moor Celtic and Borough, Whitehaven Amateurs and Whitehaven Miners Reserves and Windscale and Unisun were all postponed, but the remaining fixture proved memorable.

Gosforth opened the scoring on six minutes as the youngster failed to hold on to James Woodhall’s cross but the away side hit back when Liam O’Pray slotted home the equaliser, then a Gosforth own goal made it 2-1 to Bransty.

Gosforth replied on 16 minutes when Greg Bedford headed home from a long throw for 2-2, before the prolific Stewart O’Pray hit a 16-minute hat-trick to give the visitors a 5-2 lead.

The hosts gave themselves a chance when Bedford headed his second but Connor Holliday finished a freak move by slotting home for Bransty.

Again Gosforth hit back on 68 minutes through a Rangers’ own goal, then James Woodhall finished well to make it 5-6 with 10 minutes to go.
