Workington's Darren Askew has been granted a huge televised bout in Australia.

The 30-year-old, formerly of Thirlmere Avenue, will take on Australian Tim Hunt in Melbourne on November 11 live on pay-per-view television in Australia and the United States.

Askew, who now lives in Toowoomba, Australia, will face Hunt over six rounds in a 65 kilo catchweight limit bout on the under card to Anthony Mundine’s WBC welter weight silver world title defence against American Charles Hatley.

“This is a golden opportunity for me,” Askew said. “The chance to fight someone like Tim Hunt in front of a packed house in Melbourne and on pay-per-view television excites me.

“I know I’ve got a tough fight in front of me but I know a victory will be a huge boost to my career.

“A win over Tim Hunt will make the rest of the country sit up and take notice.

“I walk into his back yard but that doesn’t worry me.”

Facing Hunt will be one of the toughest tests of Askew’s career.

Hunt has built a record of 17 wins, four losses and one draw. His successes include a PABA welterweight title and a Victorian and Australian title.
