Cumberland FA's Under-18 side have had a mixed start to the season with a draw and a loss under their belts so far.

Their first game was in the National County Youth Cup and they had to travel to the Isle of man.

The two sides had met twice previously with the Cumbrians on top both times.

But on this occasion it was third time lucky for the Islanders as they clinched the victory.

It wasn't straight forward though. Played at The Bowl, in Douglas, in front of a 250-strong crowd, both teams had their chances and it was a pretty even encounter.

At the end of normal time the scoreline was 2-2 and the game went into extra time.

Cumberland scored but the home side dashed their hoped by scoring twice in the last three minutes to clinch the win.

Sorers for Cumberland were Sheldon Mossop, with two, and Will Field.

The county side then travelled to Leyland to play Lancashire in the Northern Counties competition.

They played a lot better but failed to take the three points, despite being 3-1 up late into game.

Leyland struck back for the draw, although the equaliser raised eyebrows as it appeared to be handled into the net.

Scorers on the day were Jay Wetherill, Sheldon Mossop and Brendon Box-Gill.
