Workington based uPVC firm the Window Outlet are again to sponsor the Cockermouth and District Snooker League.

An eighth term sponsorship for company owners Graeme and Ann-Marie Pritt sets the 2017/18 season off to another great start.

The new campaign will see all 10 teams face each other; however the league will still operate its existing two tier structure.

In the first fixtures current division one champions, Workington Cons ran out easy away winners with a 5-1 result against division two’s Workington Legion.

Victories for Richard McCarthy, Stuart Shepherd, Mike Park, Alan Moore and Ryan Barker took the Cons to 5-0 but it was Legion’s Andrew McMullen who produced the performance of the evening to defeat Julian Plaza with a 27 break to boot.

Division two champions and promoted side, the Vets Club, made an excellent start to the season.

They romped home 5-1 against division one’s Workington Golf Club.

A victory for the Golf Club’s Bryan Walker in the first looked ominous but with home wins for Paul Mostyn, Stuart Ryan, Mark Tatton and Neil Henderson the Vets went 4-1 up.

The last frame was again to produce the highest break of the match (and the week) as Vets captain; Kevin Basnett made a frame winning 63 with his first real scoring opportunity to round off the match victory nicely.

Last season’s division one runners-up, Station Road B also made the most of their home fixture as the powered to a 5-1 victory over division two’s United Club.

Simon Frazer, Mark Tunstall and Tony Elliott quickly took it to 3-0 but it was team mate Peter O’Hagan who produced the games stand out performance with breaks of 41 and 33 to trounce United’s Dave Holland.

A frame winning contribution of 35 from United captain Andrew Mitchelhill stopped the rot.

But normal service was soon resumed as Station B captain Stephen O’Hagan finished the match off with a win over Tony Hindmoor.

No recordable contributions in the match between Aspatria’s Sun Inn and Workington’s Station Road A (both of division two) didn’t stop the town side displaying similar dominance as in previous fixtures.

A 6-0 away victory stamped a huge statement of intent across their division two title aspirations.

Darren Lawson, Peter Collins, Mike Walker, John Teasdale, Keith Telford and Tom Thompson delivered the whitewash.

Finally, division one’s Maryport Social swept aside division two’s Flimby Social with a 5-1 home victory.

Wins for Ryan Ismay, Craig Stuart (29 break), John Fleming, Paul Lister and Andrew Henderson (31 break) left the Flimby side with some re-grouping to do.

Only Kevin Kirkham could give the Flimby outfit any hope as he defeated Paul Alford with room to spare.

All teams must ensure they have all KO competition entries in by the Friday before the next meeting (Monday, November 6, 7.30pm in Workington Legion).
