Two of Keswick’s hockey sides played home games and both suffered defeats.

The Men’s firsts played host to Prescot, but they fell behind in the third minute and were then playing catch up throughout the game.

However they were two evenly matched teams who were as adept in defence as they were in attack.

Shaun Wilson and Tom Morgan started numerous Keswick attacks from the back, leading to strong runs from midfield by Clive Swanston and Ben Harrison.

The visitors, however, made it 2-0, and it took a Morgan goal to get the Keswick team back into the game. It was touch and go until the visitors made sure of the points with a third goal.

The second game saw the Ladies Seconds up against another good team in the shape of Wigton.

Once again the Keswick side had a mix of experience and youth playing, and the youngsters responded well again to the encouragement of the more experienced players.

Jenny Hunter, home from University, was a plus for the Keswick side, with her non-stop running a constant problem for Wigton.

Having created several good chances for themselves they were able to withstand the visitors’ attacks until just before half time and went in only one goal down.

After the break the visitors scored three quick goals to seal the victory.

However Keswick kept attacking till the end and Emma Waite Symonds went close a couple of times.

Becky Semple’s runs caused the Wigton defence problems while Rachel Armstrong was prominent with her strong tackling and good running. Wigton scored again near the end to give them a rather flattering 5-0 margin of victory.

Keswick’s Ladies Firsts recorded a convincing 19-0 win at Kendal Seconds.

Keswick started strongly with Jodie Cowperthwaite making a superb run, linking with Ann-Marie Cowperthwaite for the latter to score the first goal.

They had added a further nine goals by half time, with Saoirse Jennings-Adams getting a hat-trick, Grace Law (2), Amy Rush, Carol Dawson and Katie Fisher all adding further goals, plus one from the youngest Cowperthwaite.

Keswick started the second half a little scrappily allowing Kendal to control more of the game.

But they went on to score nine more, Amy Rush added two more and a double from Jennings-Adams meant she reached five on the day. There were further goals for Ann-Marie Cowperthwaite, Xanthe Sparke (2), Dawson and Fisher.

This weekend they are at Ambleside.
