A pair of martial arts brothers – Elliot, 11 and Zinedine Hodgson, nine – both of Seaton, represented Hokushinko Martial Arts Club at the weekend the Scottish Karate Alliance’s Grand Prix.

They performed admirably despite stepping up age categories having celebrated birthdays recently.

Elliot won bronze in kata against boys up to three years older than him and bronze in fighting, while Zinedine clinched a stunning gold in kata and bronze in fighting.

Zinedine has been the top performer throughout the year and came away Grand Prix champion 2016.

On Sunday, Hokushinko held a grading ceremony and awarded seven new junior black belts to Ryan Dobinson, Thomas Johnston, Liam Teasdale, Debanee Allenby, Jago Sharp, Katherine Langstaff and Marcus Jones.

Luke Weaver was awarded his black belt second dan.
