Olympic hopeful Luke Greenbank is hoping to secure a place on the road to Rio next weekend when he heads to the Team GB swimming trials.

But the 18-year-old junior world record holder is not putting too much pressure on himself as he had to compete in Glasgow.

The Cockermouth swimmer will take to the pool in his favoured 100m and 200m backstroke events but says he knows time is still on his side.

"It has always been my ambition and my main aim to go to Rio but I also still have the next four years as well so I don't want to put too much pressure on myself," said Greenbank.

"It would be a very big bonus if I  got in the team."

Greenbank will head to Glasgow for the British Swimming Championships on Monday, with his first swim taking place on Wednesday in the 100m backstroke.

He has another couple of swims during the week before taking back to the water on Sunday for his other main event, the 200m backstroke.

And he has received some tips from the top at a warm weather training camp in Australia earlier this year.

"I did a some training through the winter in Australia which was hard work and I am just starting to relax enough now and prepare for next week," said Greenbank.

He was invited out to Australia by the coach of world record holder Adam Peaty, along with fellow Cockermouth swimmer Edward Baxter, who will also be heading to the trials.

"When I was out there I also got to train with Mitch Larkin, who is the world champion in my event which was great," added Greenbank.

Another leading Cockermouth ASC prospect, Baxter will head to Glasgow to compete in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events.

As well as aiming for Rio the youngster will also be able to qualify for the European Juniors if he pulls off a top swim.

Added to the duo, Lucy McKenzie, Anna Newlands and Tom Milburn will also compete, the latter will also be out to qualify for the Euro junior event in the 1500m freestyle and the 200m individual medley.

And a week later, Luke Reeson and Grant Taylor will head to the GB swimming qualifiers for the Rio Paralympics.
