A 10-year-old motocross talent who eats, sleeps and breathes the sport has scooped a bumper haul of silverware.

Robbie Park, of Seaton, has picked up five championship titles, finished 15th in the British Youth Nationals 65cc class and was named Junior Sports Person of the Year in the Allerdale Sports Awards this year.

His family travel all over the country to back him and mum Joanne said it was the youngster's passion and determination that had earned his success.

She said: "The more he learned the more determined it made him because he realised he could do it.

"I would say probably his second season, he said to his dad that he had an aim and that was to win at Brampton, and he did.

"It's so much of a family sport, his sister likes to go as much as he does because she's made friends too.

"We wouldn't have this family time if it wasn't for this sport.

"We're just a normal family that are trying to back his hobby, we haven't got the big money to throw at it.

"It's so fast and dangerous, it's terrifying and me and his dad are pacing up and down every race but it's in his blood.

"But motocross is his life, he eats, sleeps and breathes it and he's been like that from a young age."

The family are away most weekends between March and October but Joanne said the gruelling drives and long weekends were all worth it to see the joy it brings him.

Robbie added: "I was six when my dad got me in to it because he was racing and I just started watching him and wanted to be like him.

"I gave it a go and loved it, I just didn't want to get off a bike after that.

"I'd tried everything like football and rugby but then found motocross and loved it ever since.

"I like competing, I'm not someone who likes playing on video games or sitting in, I like to be outdoors."

Despite his success, Robbie is keeping his feet firmly on the ground as he makes the step up to the 85cc class next year.

"I want to just compete, in my first year I don't really want to win, I just want to get used to the bike," he said.

"Then my second year I push really hard to win."

And the Seaton Junior School pupil watches videos of his heroes Jeffrey Herlings and Marvin Musquin online in the hope that he can follow them and make the sport his full-time job.

He has been backed all the way by sponsors First Image Signs and GPC Cumbria and hopes a push from WM Moto can help him make the most of his ability.
