It's time to nominate your local sporting heroes.

The Allerdale Sports Awards are in their fifth year and nominations are now open.

Olympic distance runner Jenny Meadows will be the special guest at the event, which takes place on October 21 at the Wave Centre, Maryport.

The awards are bigger than ever with a new junior and senior category created for Team of the Year.

Allerdale council is co-ordinating the awards and nominations must be in by midnight on September 19.

Mark Fryer, deputy leader of the council, said: "This is a really big year for sport in Allerdale and the sports awards are bigger and better than ever.

"They are a great way to honour all those who day in, day out, put in the time and effort to succeed.

"I would encourage everyone to get their nominations now."
