Young Workington sailor Owen O’Donnell has finished the season on a high with a raft of trophies.

Owen, 14, has now completed his final season in the Laser he has been at the helm of for the past seven years.

And he has enjoyed plenty of success this year, competing in the schools nationals, the Tera nationals and also scooping trophies at his home club.

The St Joseph’s School pupil represented Cumbria Youth Sailing Team in the National Schools Sailing Association national regatta in Great Yarmouth earlier in the year.

And he performed admirably, being the first Tera boat home and coming ninth overall in the slow handicap category.

He was also delighted to get experience in the Tera Nationals at Pwllheli, with the sailing taking place in the open water.

Owen is a member of the South Windermere Sailing Club and he and his family spend most weekends in the Lakes as he continues to train and compete.

He finished the year winning the club’s series of races and lifting the Junior Anniversary Cup, Junior Plate 2, Junior September Series Trophy and the RS Tera Trophy.

Over the winter he will be moving up to a Laser boat so he will be training hard ready to begin competing next year.
