Cumbrian swimming records tumbled when Lucy McKenzie took to the water last weekend.

The 18-year-old, of Workington, smashed four county times including two she held herself.

And she took a whopping 19 seconds off one record which had stood for 24 years.

McKenzie, a former member of Cockermouth Swimming Club and pupil at St Joseph's School, Workington, is now taking a sports degree at Salford University.

She has joined Stockport Swimming Club and was competing in the club's annual November event, the Stockport Metro which included teams from Belgium and Ireland.

First up was the 800 freestyle in which McKenzie finished second setting a time of eight minutes 33.41 seconds which smashed the record of 8.55 set in 1989.

She then bettered her own 200 free record setting a new time of 2.01.20 and then beat the 200 individual medley record with 2.14.05.

And McKenzie finished off the weekend by taking nine seconds off her own record for the 400 free, setting a new standard of 4.08.
