Teams in the Cockermouth and District Snooker League are hoping to start their campaigns with a bang when the new season gets under way next week.

Eleven sides will face each other with six teams competing in Division One and five in Division Two.

The first fixtures of the new campaign will commence on Wednesday, October 5 with the highlights including last season's Division 2 champions Station Road A taking on Seaton Legion and defending Division 1 champions Station Road B travelling to Flimby.

Sun Inn welcome Workington Legion, Workington Cons host Maryport Social and United Club travel to Workington Golf Club. Vets Club are not in action next week.

Workington firm Window Outlet will once again sponsor the league.

In this season's seven-a-side cup competition, teams will play for the Eric McMullen Memorial Trophy in memory of the former player and chairman who recently died.

League spokesman Kevin Basnett said: "Eric will always be remembered for his fantastic commitment to the league not only as a player but more recently as chairman.

"For some 15 years Eric delivered some real stability to the league pretty much running it as a ‘one man band’ for a large proportion of his time at the helm.

"One word was often used when Eric’s name was mentioned and that was gentleman.

"Eric’s contribution will never be forgotten and in a mark of respect the league is to re-name its seven-a- side TKO cup the Eric McMullen Memorial Trophy adding more prestige to the league’s premier cup competition."

Week one fixtures: Flimby v Station Road B, Sun Inn v Workington Legion, Workington Cons v Maryport Social, Station Road A v Seaton Legion, Workington Golf Club v United Club.
