A host of talented amateur speedway riders produced a day of scintillating action at Workington's Northside speedway training track on Saturday.

The day started with the 125cc juniors class with the majority of the riders in their first year.

Alex Goldsbrough clinched first, while Lewis Baines was runner-up and Elliott Kelly was third.

Robbie Paulin, riding in his first meeting, showed great promise by making it to the final but then suffered a fall.

The 125cc seniors class provided a new winner in Jay Farish. He  secured the win ahead of Ryan Morris and James Hitchen. Corban Pavitt rode well all day but a fall in the final left him in fourth place.

Jack Wright had a nasty fall in his third ride with a hospital visit showing he had suffered knee damage.

The 250cc youth class consisted of five match races between Kyle Bickley and Leon Flint. Leon having only recently moved up to the 250 class.

Kyle won all five races and at the same time posted the fastest time of the day.

The 500cc novice class resulted in some close racing between the 10 riders. The final three being Lewis Millar, Milosz Chojnacki and Luke Mckenna. All three showed great improvement with Lewis and Luke securing four wins each in the heats.

Lewis has only moved up to the 500cc in the last couple of months but has already had notable meeting wins, posting maximum scores.

Lee Baldwin rode well to keep the lead in the overall championship.

Finally in the 500cc open class, with only four riders it resulted in some close racing between George Rothery and David Morgan, with both having two wins each going into the final.

George took the win from Kevin Whelan and Lloyd Ditchburn, with David Falling in fourth.

The amateur meeting was followed by two Northern Junior League matches.

The next amateur meeting at Northside is on August 15.
