Trailblazing Branthwaite athlete Olivia Mason can’t stop winning as she crowned a superb cross-country season by winning the Schools International in Port Talbot, Wales, last weekend.

Olivia, 15, running for England, took on a tough field in the U17 race at the event which also featured teams from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

She won the event in a time of 16.07 and was seven seconds clear of her nearest rival, Claudia Lance-Jones.

The performances from all the English girls also earned them the team title.

Mum Natalie, said: “The race was a bit longer than we are used to and everyone went off very quickly at the start.

“It was a really fast pace and the tactics this season seem to be getting faster at the start but Olivia coped with that really well.

“She has won all her races this year in different ways and stayed strong which is good to see.

“This was an undulating course, set on a hill and was very steep at times. But she was at the front for most of the race.

“There were three girls out there but Olivia just gradually pulled away in the second half of the race and got the win.”

Olivia will now head to the London Mini Marathon next month where she is representing the north west before concentrating on the upcoming track season.
