Dearham long distance runner Ricky Lightfoot romped to victory at the Xtreme Dodo Trail race on the stunning volcanic island of Mauritius on Sunday.

The 30-year-old beat 150 runners from across the globe to land a second successive win in the 50km race.

He finished in five hours and 40 minutes.

He said: "We ran up to the highest point on the island. We got beautiful panoramic views of the turquoise sea, the sand and the mountains which were thick with forests.

"People usually flock to Mauritius for the beaches but the trail race was just as beautiful."

Lightfoot will again be in action on Saturday at the Borrowdale Fell Race and then on August 16 he travels to the Dolomites in Italy as part of a Great Britain squad to compete in a relay race.
