Disappointed Workington Town boss Phil Veivers admitted his team's performance against Featherstone was 'unacceptable'.

Town went down 52-6 at home to Rovers and he said his side now have to roll their sleeves up in the Championship.

With fellow strugglers Oldham and Swinton both picking up wins yesterday, Town are beginning to look adrift at the bottom of the table.

And Veivers accepts it is now an uphill battle for his troops.

"At the end of the day I can't be concerned with other teams, I've got to be concerned with what we are dishing up at the moment and what we are dishing up at the moment is unacceptable," he said.

"The only way we are going to dig ourselves out of this hole is by rolling our sleeves up and getting some hard work done in training and on the field.

"Talk is cheap and there has been a lot of words spoken in the last week to try and rectify a few issues that we had last week and it didn't seem to work so there's action that needs to happen."
Town had two tries disallowed for forward passes and Featherstone also stole an interception try as Town were attacking on their line.

Veivers admitted that if those calls had gone the home side's way maybe the outcome might have been different.

"When we went set for set with them and we were competing with them, we could hold them and created some opportunities ourselves," he said.

"But in the first half we didn't get enough ball possession down in their 20.

"At 6-0 down we had an opportunity when Kris Coward broke through and the referee pulled it back for a forward pass.

"I'll have to look at the video but I thought it was pretty flat myself and that would have made it 6-6.

"Off the back of that they go down to the other end and we fail to hold them back on another soft try so we're 12-0 down.

"Next opportunity we get at their end and we get pulled back for another forward pass that looked flat for Chris Murphy in the corner. If we go there 12-6 it was a very competitive game.

"To be fair we were creating our own destiny but the downfall is two forward passes and an intercept are inconceivable and we're throwing our chances away."
