Great Broughton swimmer Luke Greenbank was on the podium at the 2017 Sette Colli International in Rome over the weekend.

Greenbank rounded out the podium after bagging bronze for Great Britain in the men's 200m backstroke final with a time of 1:58.87.

Hungary’s Peter Bernek grabbed gold in 1:57.45, with Christian Diener of Germany a close second with 1:57.50, the duo both moving into the top 20 world rankings.

Greenbank came from seventh at the final turn to blast down the last 50m to claim third in the first event of the night.

The former Cockermouth swimmer, who trains under Mel Marshall at the National Centre Loughborough, was selected for the World Championships and this performance shows he is heading in the right direction.

But the talented swimmer says his main focus is still on the Olympics in 2020.

He said afterwards: "That was really good, I am pleased. It was my fastest untapered swim.

"I am in a good position as there is not really any pressure on me.

"I am still young, there is time to get experience. I am looking more to Tokyo."
