Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League Division One leaders Workington Cons were back to winning ways this week with a 4-2 away victory over fellow top tier opponents Seaton Legion.
A victory for Richard McCarthy and a black ball win for Stuart Shepherd took the Cons side into a swift 2-0 lead.
Seaton’s Alan Stephenson managed to stop the rot with a win in frame three but it was Cons’ Alan Moore who took a close fourth frame to push his team to 3-1.
Julian Plaza extended the match advantage with narrow victory in frame five, however, it was Legion’s Mark Tatton who eased the pain with a win in the last frame of the match to take a vital point.
Seaton still sit at the bottom of the table in Division One.
Current Division One champions Station Road B maintained their chase for the title with a 5-1 away win against Maryport Social.
Station B victories came from Simon Frazer, Tony Elliott (34 break), Peter O’Hagan, Shaun Ayre and Stephen O’Hagan with Social’s Craig Stuart offering the only resistance in a convincing win over Mark Tunstall that included a contribution of 34.
Station B stay third in Division One with Maryport remaining fourth, also in Division One.
Division Two leaders Flimby Social whitewashed the United Club 6-0 away in their best performance of the season so far.
It was down to earth with a massive bump for the United Club, having beaten Division One leaders Workington Cons last week.
Flimby produced a series of confident shows with Kevin Kirkham, Paul Vickers, Sal Cakmak, Mark Forsyth and Geoff Banton all winning fairly easily.
A number of successful snookers almost gave United’s Dave Chapman a chance to pinch a point but, with a fortuitous pot on the black, Flimby’s Mike Walker added insult to injury in a frustrating night for the United Club side. United Club stay third in Division Two.
Finally, Workington’s Vets Club delivered a fine away victory as they won 5-1 at fellow townies, Station Road A.
Vets’ Paul Graham produced the stand out performance of the match, and indeed the week, with a fantastic break of 68 in his win over Keith Telford.
The only other notable moment in the match came in frame two as, with a re-spotted black ball victory, Vets’ Neil Henderson presided over Mike Walker.
Vets sit second in Division Two with Station Road A fifth in Division One.
No result for Workington Legion versus Workington Golf Club.
