Workington's United Club produced one of the biggest shocks the league has seen in many years this week in the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League as they defeated Workington Cons 4-2.

What makes the scoreline even more remarkable was the Division Two side also did it away from home.

Cons have been one of the top sides since the league was formed more than 60 years ago and, with a frame-winning break of 40 from Cons’ Alan Moore in the first game of the match, it looked like the start of a routine victory.

Nevertheless, a convincing Andrew Mitchelhill win against Julian Plaza in the next followed by a frame-winning break of 40 from Dave Holland against Richard McCarthy in frame three took the United Club 2-1 up.

At this point, fate seemed to be on the United Club’s side and, with black ball victories for both Dave Chapman and Mark Johnson against Ryan Barker and Mike Park respectively, the United Club established an unassailable 4-1 lead.

Stuart Shepherd did manage to pull one back in the final frame of the match as he defeated Tony Hindmoor.

As Station Road were out of action, Cons stay top of Division One and the United Club remain third in Division Two.

Flimby moved back to the top of Division Two with a 4-2 home win against Division One's Maryport Social.

Victories for Paul Vickers and Sal Cakmak took the Flimby side into a 2-0 lead but a frame-winning break of 31 from Maryport’s Paul Alford reduced the deficit.

A Kevin Kirkham break of 34 enabled Flimby to move to 3-1 and, with a victory for team-mate Mike Walker, the 7’s TKO finalists ensured the match win.

Some consolation was afforded in the last as Andrew Henderson defeated Steve Edmondson to take an important point. Maryport stay fourth in Division One.

In a battle of the Division One sides, Workington Golf Club drew with Seaton Legion 3-3.

Two black ball games could have produced a very different look to the scoreline but, as they were shared, one for Seaton’s Karl Newton and the other for the golf club’s Mark Carruthers, a fair conclusion was recorded.

Seaton drop down to the bottom and the Golf Club move up one place into second.

Division One's Station Road A delivered a convincing performance as they presided over Division Two's Workington Legion 5-1.

The games only recordable contribution came in the last frame of the match as Mike Walker made 31 in his victory over Mark Ritson.

Station Road A remain fifth in Division One and Workington Legion still prop up Division Two in fifth.

Finally, a contribution of 24 from Sun Inn’s Steve Miller and a brace of 31 breaks by Vets' Kevin Basnett were the highlights of the clash between the two Division Two sides as the match ran out 3-3.

A home draw and three points sees Aspatria’s Sun Inn move up one place into fourth in the second tier with the Vets two places above in second.
