West Cumbrian speedsters James Hitchen and Callum Foy impressed in the second round of Scunthorpe Speedway's Winter Series.

Dearham racer Hitchen, 16, from Cumbria, dominated the support class to win all six of his races.

He has progressed quickly through the sport since racing in the youth 125/150 class two years ago, beating Chris Hay and Ryan Burton in one of his first novice class meetings a year ago and becoming a confident, quick rider.

"It was good to take the lead of the support class series and hopefully I can stay in this position to the end with some more good finishes in the remaining rounds," he told Scunthorpe's website.

"Hopefully by the end of the Winter Series I will be ready to step up to the open class but there is still work to be done before I am ready.

“The meeting was extremely enjoyable and there were some great races with Gavin Parr. Races like we had are always enjoyable and rewarding against someone you respect on a tough track."

He is hoping to make the step up to National League racing towards the end of next year or in 2018.

Meanwhile, Foy, of Crosby, was riding in only his second meeting in the sport but showed his potential by winning the novice class.
