THE Future Champions Cup races held in North Yorkshire at the weekend attracted quite a few West Cumberland Orienteering Club members.
The middle distance race, held in Gilling Woods near Helmsley, produced two WCOC winners - Katrina Hemingway in W12 and Susan Skinner in W40.
Martin Skinner was third in M40 and Paul Eaton fourth in M12.
The classic distance race was held on the Sunday in Cawthorne Woods.
There were wins for Charlotte Watson in W16A, Susan Skinner in W40L and Chris Hemingway in M16B.
Other notable results were: Katrina Hemingway fourth on W12A, Joyce Hemingway fourth on W45S, Kate Skinner fifth on W10A and Andrew Bradley fifth on M45L.
The summer series got started on a cracking little area near Ashness Bridge, Borrowdale, in wonderfully complex woodland.
The long course, 5.5km with 22 controls, produced a one-second winning margin, with the Michaels, Billinghurst and Noblett, fighting it out.
Billinghurst gained the second advantage somewhere on the course to clinch the season’s first win.
Junior, Lewis Taylor, put in a strong challenge to take third. Charlotte Watson, returning from her World Schools’ successes, came in a very respectable seventh.
Ben Emerson has started his attack on the short course league with a great win. Having won the short course night league he has set his sights on the summer series. Katrina Hemingway finished first lady on the short in sixth.
The summer series continues, with venues throughout West Cumbria. Details can be found on the website www.lakes-o.freeserve.co.uk and close to each Thursday, on the answerphone 01768 895539.
