Juniors dominate on Holme Wood course

A WARM early summer evening in Holme Wood on the shores of Loweswater provided exciting orienteering for West Cumberland Orienteers. The steep sided forest gave many interesting routes through very runnable woodland.

Jason Howell just took the 4.1km (with 180m climb) long course from Lewis Taylor by 15 seconds. Ben Emerson once again put in an excellent performance to take fourth place.

The short course was also dominated by juniors, with Nathaniel Green in second just holding off Paul Eaton, with a 30 second margin.

Many juniors were also making the transition from schools orienteering, trying the easy course. The open woodland certainly provided a new challenge for them compared to the safety of school playing fields. They all had success, with a few very fast times to show for it!

The summer series continues throughout June and July with the details of the venues on the website www.wcoc.org.uk There are always courses to suit all abilities, and everyone is welcome to turn up and try the sport. Details are also available, close to each Thursday, on the answerphone 01768 895539
