Park dominates competition

LAURA Park has been winning again for Cumbria - this time in a Northern Counties inter-schools match at Middlesbrough.

Against runners from Northumberland, Durham and Cleveland Park dominated the 3000m race from gun to tape.

She increased her lead lap by lap completely demolishing her opposition and finishing in nine minutes 44 seconds, one of the quickest times in the UK this season.

Park lapped all other competitiors except two and won the race by a margin of 250m and nearly one minute.

Her nearest rival was fellow Cumbrian Elle Wilson from Barrow.

Earlier last month Park competed in the prestigious Blaydon race, a high profile event attracting a top quality field from all over the UK and abroad.

In a field of nearly 4,000 runners, Park (pictured) completed the 5.9-mile course through the streets of Newcastle City centre through to Blaydon. in an impressive time of 33.09 which put her third in the senior ladies race and first junior by a considerable margin.

She was only beaten by 2 African runners - Roman Gessese who flew in from Ethiopia especially to compete took first while fellow Ethiopian Heli Dagne , last year’s winner, was second.

Park finished ahead of several notable runners including Kenyan Caroline Chiptenui and some high profile British runners.
