CUMBRIA’S junior atheletes found medals hard to come by at the English Schools championship at the International Stadium, Gateshead.
Eight members of the team reached finals but only Laura Park, of Ellenborough AC, won a medal - though it was a gold.
In the intermediate girls’ 3000m she took the lead at around the halfway mark and went on to win in nine minutes 45.41 seconds. (See back page for more on Park)
A generally cold and wet weekend did not help performances and of those reaching finals only Adam McKee, Carlisle, set a personal best with 36.55 metres in the junior boys’ discus.
Four track athletes reached the finals. James Bowness, Egremont, ran fifth in the intermediate boys 800m and Chelsie Browbank, Wigton, ran seventh in the junior girls’ 200m.
Tristan Venus, Carlisle, was eighth in the junior boys 1500m and Tom Farrell, Carlisle, ran eighth in the senior boys 3000m.
Holly Nelson, Windermere, came eighth in the junior girls’ shot and Eloise Stott, Greysouthen, came seventh in the senior girls’ shot.
