Ellenborough athletes get their gongs

ELLENBOROUGH Athletic Club held its annual presentation night at Netherhall Rugby Club to mark the progress of its members.

HONOURS: The awards winners at Ellenborough Athletic Club

The evening was well attended and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The Bill Cameron award was shared between Megan Featherstone and Holly Adams while the Iggesund award went to Stephen Crake.

Rachel Mein took home the Coaches’ Award and best female trainer was Rianna Crampton and best male trainer Sam Johnston.

The most improved girl award went to Ellen Fisher and the most improved boy to Gregory Johnstone.

The girl with most potential was Jade Miller while Thomas Adams took that honour among the boys.

The club girl for 2009 was awarded to Alexandra Hutton and the club boy for 2009 was to Sam Cummings.

Katy Johnson and Cameron Mitchell were the girl and boy with the highest points scores in the Cumbria League.

The girls’ excellent performance award went to Katy Johnson for her consistent high quality performances throughout the season at 80m, 150m and discus.

She is currently ranked number 18 in the UK for U13 girls at 150m sprint.

The boys’ excellent performance award went to Mitchell for his achievements through the season.

He is the county 200m champion, Allerdale representative at county schools, and has represented Cumbria at the intercounties competition at Wigan.

The sports girl of the year title was awarded to Carmen Friel who has also enjoyed much success on the track despite moving up in age groups and the sports boy of the year was awarded to Mitchell.

The Jackie Oakes Memorial Trophy for special achievement was awarded to Hannah Bethwaite for winning the English Schools Fell running championship for the second year running and also for representing England in the Home Countries international fell race, where she finished second.

The committee also presented a special award to Hayley Cameron for her excellent performances over the last 12 years.

She gained maximum Cumbria League points at U15, U17 and U20 age groups. She did this by being top thrower at discus, javelin and shot.

Special thanks were also given to Paul Wilson for the tremendous effort that he puts into the annual Ellenborough 10km road race.

The committee would also like to thank everyone who has helped them throughout the year and on the evening, and everyone who kindly donated prizes for the raffle.
