Wet and wild for 30-miler

WELL it did not seem to be an evening in June when Velo Club Cumbria staged the 30-mile time trial starting at Braithwaite.
As riders set off for Keswick roundabout the rain came in and with a steady easterly wind made the return leg from Cockermouth very tough indeed .
Fastest was Brian Payton, VC Cumbria, with a time of one hour six minutes and six seconds.
Second was Rob Hargreaves, Team Swift/VCC, in 1.07.51, and Mark Amor, VCC, was third with 1.08.51.
Adam Powe, VCC, was fourth 1.10.33 and 16-year-old Richard Houghton, Keswick Bikes/VCC, added another personal best to his CV with 1.11.53 - just beating the 25mph barrier - for fifth.
Dave Robinson, VCC, came home in sixth with 1.12.31.
Having a real battle were Mark Wells, VCC, and Julian Cook, VCC, with only one second separating them at the finish, 1.16.04 and 1.16.05 respectively.
Frazer Robinson, Keswick Bikes, was next to take the fastest over 50 category with 1,16.19 and Kevin Wiltshure, VCC, 10th in 1.16.33.
David Hayton,VCC,was 11th in 1.22.16 with Mark Gascoigne,VCC, clocking 1.23.27 for 12th spot.
Willy Armstrong, VCC, took 13th place in 1.25.27 followed in by Neil Hercberg 1.26.11, 14th. And the big man Martin Jenkinson, VCC, was 15th 1.28.00. Don Morrison clocked 1.36.42 17th.
The ladies’ race was won by Sam Ayers, VCC, in 1.31.21, 16th overall, second Wendy Thomas, VCC, 1.39.24, 18th, and third to Su Latham, VCC. 1.44.42 19th.
