BORDER City Wheelers staged two races - a Lakes and Lancs sporting course competition and a VTTA North veterans’ event.
The course distance of 25 miles was shortened by one and a half miles from the turn due to roadworks and with the weather windy with rain and cold plus the early start due to the clock change none of the 62 riders complained.
Winner of the veterans event was Eaglesfield’s Ken Hargreaves, Team Swift, second was Lee Foster, BCW and third was Mike Westmorland, BCW with Ged Brear, Velo Club Cumbria, Whitehaven in fourth place.
In the senior race West Cumbria riders all finished in the top 20.
The outright winner was North East rider Keith Murray, Scott Cycles, in 47 minutes 43 seconds and Carlisle-based Velo Club Cumbria’s Peter Brear finished second only 14 seconds behind in 47.57.
Brian Payton,VCC, Eaglesfield was fourth in 48.20 and Mark Amor,VCC,Whitehaven finished seventh in 49.32.
Geoff Ayers ,VCC, another Eaglesfield rider finished 14th in 52.55 and and Dave Robinson,VCC, Whitehaven clocked 53.14 for 17th.
