Cool rider

IN SPITE of the cold spring the the Tuesday evening time trials got underway with a 10-mile event from Dubwath to Cockermouth roundabout and return.

This event, run by Velo Club Cumbria, is a series held through the season.

Derwent CC will be holding races from Derwent School and Solway CC have a series of tens both on Thursday evenings.

In a record turn out VC Cumbria’s hill climb champion Adam Powe turned the odds to beat the favourites and win in 22 minutes nine seconds, Powe was also third at the weekend in the Barrow Central Wheelers hilly TT.

Powermen Rob Hargreaves and Mark Amor battled it out for second both finishing in 22.24.

Fourth was Dave Robinson with 23.30 and junior Richard Houghton continued his improvement after finishing second at the weekend in the national Rudy Project series, with fifth in 23.40.

Geoff Ayers, after Sunday’s Teesdale mountain race, which he finished a creditable 17th, came sixth with 24.02 just missing the 25mph barrier and two seconds ahead of Alan Roper seventh in 24.04.

Mark Hopkins was eighth in 24.05 and Craig Murtagh ninth in 24.26 with Peter Reeve making the top 10 in 24.29.

It was almost a separate race for the ladies with them all finishing together. The winner was Alison Cowen in 32.25 (30th overall).

Taking the lantern rouge prize was David Swift in 34.18.
