Change of route for Tuesday time trial

THE Tuesday evening time trial started from Cockermouth School down to Embleton and left up past Higham Hall, to the top of the hill then down the fast descent to finish just before the junction with the main road, an eight-mile course giving riders a change from the A66 and one for the climbers but tough for most.
Adam Powe, VC Cumbria, who won the Shap hill climb a few weeks ago, finished more than a minute ahead of the competition in a blistering 19 minutes 52 seconds with team-mate Mark Amor, VCC, second in 21.02 beating Brian Payton, VCC, to third in 21.23.
First vet O40 was Dave Robinson, VCC, having his best season, in fourth overall in 21.25 with noted hill climber Keith Ashbridge, VCC, making a return to racing with a 21.45 for fifth.
In sixth was Aspatria’s Kevin Wiltsure (22.27) and following up in seventh was top runner Des Morris, also making a mid-season start to cycle racing .
Julian Cook (22.33) was eighth with Sean Hoban (22.36) ninth and Mark Wells (22.37) 10th.
Just seconds adrift was Chris Knowles (22.42) in 11th, 22.42 with Honister 92 rider Phil Malcolm (22.48) 12th, Mike Hodson (24.30) 13th, Mark Gascoigne (25.09) 14th, James O’Brian (25.23) 15th, Angus Black (25.55) 16th, and moving up the rankings was Tony Gagg (26.11) in 17th.
Wendy Thomas continued her points tally for leading lady to finish 18th in 27.00. Nineteenth was Andrew Davies (27.48) followed by K Gilles (28.40) and John Reckie (29.15).
