Students make ju-jitsu grade

COMBAT Ju-Jitsu Academy at Cockermouth Sports Centre has held a grading day.
Junior members of the academy were put through their paces in the ancient martial art.
The ju-jitsu students develop skills in striking, kicking, throwing, joint locking, choking, strangling and grappling.
In the beginning a student is taught basic skills and through a grading system increases his knowledge.
Keen students are rewarded with a succession of different coloured belts from white to yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown and black.
The most outstanding student at the grading was Jason Savage who took his orange belt.
Yellow: Rees Pattinson, Aleks Turski, Alex Broad, Luke Heywood and Cameron Angus.
Orange: Jordan Martin, Luke Martin, Jason Savage, Tom Dennis, Tim Dixon and Keren Fort.
Green: Daniel Gibson, Matthew New and John Montgomerie.
Blue: Ross Taylor, Ella Skilbeck, Shane Smith and Chris Simpson.
Purple: Srinath Kailasa, Sechi Kailasa, Michael Davies, Michael Bruce, Andrew Carr, Jamie Ward, Domenico Pignataro and Jeremy Dixon.
Brown: Matthew Ward, Martin Hawes and Luke Skilbeck.
The grading panel was John Barany (3rd Dan black belt) and Nicky Barany (2nd Dan black belt) with the assistance of Jamie Starkie (junior black belt).
