GOLD and bronze were the colour of medals won by judo exponents from a Workington club at the first Cumbria Ne-Waza Open championships.
Ry Ju Kwai Judo Club members Craig Hunter and Matthew Wilson were among the winners at the competition in Carlisle Judo Club.
Hunter took gold in the under-100 kilo class and Wilson bronze in the under-81 kilo category.
Wilson also picked up the player of the day awards for the spirit he showed during the competition.
Ne-Waza means groundwork, so such a tournament involves fighting on the ground with bouts being won by either pinning an opponent to the floor on his back, getting a choke hold or arm lock, or through points scored when throwing to the ground.
Ry Ju Kwai club is based at Workington Police Club. It is open to the general public but is for adults only.
