Two-day event marks Solway Autograss 10th anniversary

SOLWAY Autograss stages its biggest event of the season this weekend - two days of racing at its Hay Close venue near Penrith.

There will be two heats tomorrow with lots of open races, then a further heat on the Sunday leading to the finals.

It is expected that there will be a very good turn out of both cars and spectators, as this is the 10th anniversary of the club.

The years have seen the club grow from humble beginnings with a handful of members to possibly the fastest growing form of motorsport in West Cumbria.

Solway has changed tracks and locations a few times but always with the racer in mind, moving to bigger and faster tracks each time.

All visitors are welcome to stay camp overnight at the track.

On a normal race day both driver and spectator numbers are up from last season with a lot of visiting drivers making their way from down and across the country.

This year the classes have various sponsors including Minimaster from Penrith sponsoring class 1, Martin Lofthouse Horticultural services from Ripon sponsoring class 2, Tendley Quarries Limited from Brigham sponsoring classes 3 and 8, www.rent-turkey.com sponsoring class 4, Derwent service station, Great Lumley, sponsoring F600, WP & GW Foster haulage contractors from Aspatria sponsoring classes 5 and 9, while class 6 sponsorship is provided by county motors at Carlisle and Sherwood’s mini-bus hire are sponsoring class 7.

Ian Harrison Agricultural Contractor from the Wigton area is proud sponsor of class 10. All vehicle Salvage Limited from Branthwaite are proud to be sponsoring Stock hatch racers.

The champ of champs race is sponsored by Magic motorsport and leisure. Finally the host venue Hay Close maize maze and tea room will be sponsoring the juniors which include drivers from as young as 12 years old.
