The 29-year-old shot-stopper has rejoined the club after leaving National League side Barrow earlier this year.

Taylor played for Reds’ reserve sides during the 2006/7 and 2007/8 seasons and made his first team debut in September 2007.

He was ever present between the sticks during the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons and racked up 131 appearances during his first spell at the club.

General team manager Derek Townsley indicated in late May that Taylor was the club’s number one off-season target.

Last term’s first choice goalkeepers Alex Mitchell and Jonny Jamieson both left the club in the close season meaning Taylor is currently the only senior keeper on Reds’ books.

Taylor said: “I had contact in the summer with Derek Townsley and Dave Hewson to see what was what and to get me to the club.

“I was keen to come back once they knew what they were doing with their other goalkeepers.

“It was a really easy decision. I still know a lot of the lads here. I enjoyed playing for the club when I was there.

“Everything just seemed right and it’s good to be back.”

The son of former Reds midfielder David Taylor, he joined Celtic Nation in 2013 before heading to Barrow, but he left the Holker Street outfit following a lack of first team opportunities.

He spent the final two months of last season with Penrith.

Taylor added: “I’ve got a good relationship with the fans, players and staff and it’s a good club.

“I know so much about the club I’m not going into it blind.

“Last time I played for Reds I played the best that I’d ever done in my career and I’ll be able to carry on from before.

“I would never take it for granted that I’m the number one and the lads that come in could be just as capable.

“I’ve just got to train hard and hopefully I’ll be selected.”
