Boss Dave Hewson has praised two of Workington Reds' future stars, saying they have a “bright future” ahead of them.

Reserve team player Lamin Cham stepped up on Tuesday night, alongside new signing Sam Joel and made an impact against Cleator Moor Celtic.

And Hewson is delighted with the young talent in Reds’ ranks after their performances in the 5-1 win, Joel finishing with two goals to his name.

“I have to mention Lamin who I thought did absolutely superb for the full 90 minutes on Tuesday,” said joint manager Hewson.

“I thought he looked very comfortable on the ball, very assured and he looks like he’s another big prospect for the future.”

Joel adapted his style of football to cope with the sticky pitch and Hewson said he is getting better each week.

He admitted there was still room for him to grow within the Borough Park environment but said he had raw talent in abundance.

“Sam has got a lot of talent and a lot of ability on the ball,” said Hewson.

“There’s certain parts of his game that he will need to develop and work on, especially to suit our level, but he’s young, enthusiastic and keen to learn.

“He showed a glimpse of what he can do on Tuesday night on a difficult surface.

“His game is getting the ball down, dribbling and running at defenders which is really really difficult to do on the surface that we were on."

Reds travel to Stafford Rangers tomorrow in a crucial league match as they aim to get back in a play-off slot.
