Workington Reds reserves boss Steven Rudd has quit to return to his former club Gretna in a coaching capacity.

Rudd guided the reserves to the runners-up berth in the Lancashire League last season.

And they held an unbeaten home record including the 8-1 demolition of eventual champions, Colne.

Reds chairman Glenn Heathcote praised Rudd for his hard work over the past 18 months and wished him well for the future.

He said: "He has done a cracking job with our reserves and under-21s and we are disappointed to lose him.

"But, at the same time, it is quite pleasing to know that we are bringin young coaches and managers through and other clubs are interested in taking them on.

"We wish him all the best for the future."

General team manager, Derek Townsley, admitted Rudd would be a miss to his coaching line-up but hoped he found success.

"Steve will be a miss as he mixed in everywhere. He was very much part of the group with myself, Lee Andrews and Dave Hewson," said Townsley.

"But at the same time we wish him well and this is a great opportunity for him."

Reds have also announced a provision schedule of pre-season friendlies, including clashes with Carlisle United and Gretna.

July 5: Whitehaven (a), July 9: Carlisle Utd (h), July 12: Carlisle City (a), July 15: Gretna (a), July 23: West Auckland Town (h), July 26: Penrith (h), August 6: Kendal Town (a).
