A delighted Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson says he is proud of his players for grinding out their fourth win on the trot.

Reds beat Coalville Town at Borough Park with a lone goal from the penalty spot the difference between the two sides.

It was a much-improved performance from Reds, and Hewson says a win with their hectic schedule was really pleasing.

“I am obviously happy after every three points – every game is such a shift especially when you’re playing Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Tuesday. So to grind another one out is very pleasing indeed," Hewson said.

“I thought in the first half we played some excellent football without a real cutting edge and, unfortunately, dropped off a bit in the second half.

“But as long as we keep churning out the points, that’s the most important thing.”

Scott Allison was brought down twice in the box with the referee waving claims for a penalty away on the first occasion but pointing to the spot on the second.

Conor Tinnion stepped up to take the spot-kick, the keeper got a hand to it but couldn’t prevent him from scoring.

Hewson added: “I thought we should have had a penalty earlier on, I thought that was more of a penalty than the one we got.

“Scotty made a couple of good runs in the first half and that’s what we spoke to him about before the game.

“We were lucky the penalty went in but I will take them any way. I don’t care how they go in as long as we get the three points.”

Hewson also had praise for keeper Aaran Taylor who saved them with two fine stops in the dying minutes of the game.

“I know I often say that’s what he’s there for but you can't take anything for granted,” he said.
