Workington Reds assistant boss Dave Hewson has warned that Colwyn Bay will be out to make sure there is no repeat of their FA Cup drubbing tonight.

Fourteenth-placed Reds will make the mammoth journey to North Wales to take on Colwyn Bay (7.45pm ko) in an Evo-Stik Premier Division clash.

The West Cumbrians have already struck a psychological blow ahead of the encounter after they hammered Colwyn 5-0 at Borough Park in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup less than two weeks ago.

The victory included a rare hat-trick of penalties from in-form forward Scott Allison.

But Hewson believes tonight will be a totally different game.

He said: “It’s not an ideal journey for a Tuesday night.

“Coming off the back of a positive result against them, we are not going there thinking it’s going to be the same scoreline.

“It’s away from home. It’s going to be a tough challenge but we will certainly be going there for three points.

“The FA Cup match wasn’t a 5-0 game – we got three penalties. They won’t want to be repeating that on their home soil.”

Colwyn are one place above the relegation zone in 20th after picking up eight points from the nine league games so far.

The Welsh side have won one and lost three on their own turf in the league this season. They had lost three games in a row in all competitions before Saturday’s 1-1 draw away at Matlock.

Workington go into the game having maintained their unbeaten home record this season with a 1-1 draw against Barwell on Saturday.

Winger Conor Tinnion struck a sublime equaliser to ensure Reds took a share of the spoils.

Hewson added: “It was disappointing really because we didn’t play as well as have been doing.

“They were a tough team. It was a scrappy game and I suppose 1-1 is fair. We are still unbeaten at home.

“Conor contributed a lot of goals last year and it was a great strike on Saturday. He has got a sweet left boot.”

Hewson said there were no injury concerns ahead of tonight’s match.
